Microsoft does lose money!
Bless the guys at The Register. They've dug up nuggets of information from Microsoft's recent SEC filings that show the company making losses on the Xbox, predictably, and on its MSN service. Of course, there's this quote from the article to put things in persective.
For the period ended September 30th, the two cash cows of Client (i.e. Windows) and Information Worker (Office) produced operating income of $2.48 billion on revenue of $2.89 billion, and $1.88 billion on $2.38 billion respectively.
That means Windows is a license to print money, literally.
