Microsoft cuts price on Windows Me
Hoping to encourage consumers to upgrade from Windows 98, Microsoft will offer its upcoming Windows Me, or Millennium Edition, at a $30 discount.
The new consumer operating system, which goes on sale Sept. 14, will sell for $59, compared to the $89 price tag for the last three consumer versions of Windows. One analyst, however, noted that most of Windows Me's best features are geared more toward new systems and with providing users with new hardware functionality rather than toward enhancing existing ones - making it unlikely that consumers will flock to the new software.
