Microsoft antitrust case enters home stretch

Attorneys for Microsoft and the U.S. Department of Justice present oral arguments today in the government's antitrust case against the software giant.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson, who last fall essentially agreed with the government's allegations that Microsoft was a predatory monopoly, must determine which antitrust laws, if any, Microsoft violated, and if so, what penalties to impose on the company.

Possible remedies include ordering Microsoft to change its business practices, requiring it to disclose its source code, or even ordering its breakup into three companies.
