Micron ships first PC2-5300 FBDIMMs
Micron claims to be the first memory manufacturer to provide buffered dual in-line memory modules (FBDIMMs) using DDR2-667 components. The memories are offered with densities from 256 megaByte (MB) to 2 gigabyte (GB) and speed grades up to PC2-5300.
Elpida announce in December that the firm had shipped first samples of FBDIMMs. Based on DDR2 SDRAM, the technology improves speed and stability of the memory and will target mainly servers. The FBDIMM specification is currently up for standard approval by the Device Engineering Counsel (JEDEC). (THG)
