Micron adds rewriteable CD with desktops
Micron Electronics Inc. is offering Sony's recordable and rewriteable CD drive as an upgrade option with Millennia and Client Pro desktop computers.
The Sony CD-RW drive is the industry's first CD recorder capable of 4X recording and 24X CD reading. The CDs hold 650MB of uncompressed data and can support up to 1000 erasures. CD-RW discs can also be used with DVD-ROM and CD-ROM drives.
For the upgrade price of $199, Micron buyers can substitute the Sony CD-RW drive for the standard 40X CD-ROM drive. Alternatively, users can order a Millennia or Client Pro system with both the standard 40X CD-ROM drive and the Sony CD-RW drive for the upgrade price of $249.
