Ltd. opened discussions with the US Federal Trade Commission last month aimed at overturning key Rambus Inc. patents. Both companies say Rambus' synchronous DRAM patents were improperly based on information discussed during industry open standards meetings between 1993 and 1995. According to chip executives. Rambus' failure to disclose their intent to patent during those meetings makes the patents unenforceable. FTC representatives have informed Rambus of the charges.
