Benchmark Results: Audio/Video Benchmarks

Clearly, iTunes does not benefit at all from any sort of fast memory configuration. The results of 1:24 and 1:25 are within the normal variance from one benchmark run to the next.

The same applies to the Lame MP3 encoder. There is no benefit to fast memory.

DivX is able to perform video transcoding slightly quicker on some of the memory, but the results aren’t consistent enough to clearly identify benefits of fast RAM.

Transcoding MPEG-2 to Xvid format shows more benefits: faster DDR3 speed is better here.

There seems to be negligible benefit in the case of the Mainconcept encoder. For some reason, the fastest DDR3-1600 memory setting with low latencies was the only test run that provided better performance.

What on earth are the FSB
RAM ratios now related to?
If the old QX9770 was 1600MHz (400MHz quad pumped) giving a 1:1 with 800MHz RAM (400MHz DDR) then surely the Core i7 is faster - if so then how can you have 2:6 going up to 2:12?
I know that this must be tied up with the new way that the QPI link works but I think it would be nice of this was explained...
