MechWarrior 4 Cleared for Free Release
Old school PC gaming for free, coming soon.
Remember MechWarrior4? That game is fondly remembered by many PC gamers. Those who want to live the nostalgia but don't have the original media or the setup required to play the classic will soon be able to get it all for free.
While it was originally announced last summer, MekTek today announced that Microsoft's legal department has cleared the free release of MechWarrior4.
MekTek wrote in an update:
If you've been following the drama surrounding the free release of Mechwarrior4, than you would be aware that the initial announcement, made last summer, was a bit premature. After nearly a year since the announcement came, MekTek Studios is pleased to announce, that Microsoft Legal has given the all clear for the free release of Mechwarrior4. This hallmark movement by Microsoft Games couldn't come at a better time, as the Mechwarrior community is attempting a rebirth, amidst announcement of a Mechwarrior Reboot. Thank you Microsoft.
Stay tuned for news of the release launch as it nears.
Earlier this week we featured an Xbox 360 organized by Microsoft Australia to celebrate the 1 millionth Xbox 360 console sold down under. It was an impressive effort from WETA Workshop, crafting one amazing sculpture of the Xbox 360 and Master Chief. But what if you wanted the bling?
This other shiny console, which has plenty of bling-bling in the literal sense, is also a part of the charity auction.
Nothing sparkles quite like the ‘Crystal’ console boasting more than 10,000 semi-precious stones and valued at more than $1000.00 (AU). A one-of-a-kind design, this Xbox 360 Arcade console is set to be a showpiece for the most glamorous ‘bling’ living room.

cool, i loved mw3 .. was the last one of these i played, will be good to take a trip down memory lane ,,, thanks MS and thanks for letting me know Toms Hardware
Blatantly getting people excited for a new game, only reason it's free. Good here nonetheless!
Doesn't that say something about the price of games?
The image in that article is from the latest Mechwarrior game that is currently in limbo afaik since it uses model designs they didn't have rights for.
Mechwarrior 4 is very old and has little to do with the latest new one. MekTek is a mod that adds new mechs and even a few multiplayer modes iirc, so why is that image there?
It's likely to confuse people, many will expect the MekTek release to look like that when its a completely different game.
To little to late, MWLL has taken the lime light now.
Mechwarrior 4 multiplayer CTF in the city, that brings back the memories.
If there are some servers up when it comes along i may well see you there \o/
wasn't mw4 the arcady one? wasn't mw3 the last good mechwarrior... will give it a go anyway. How much more arcady can you get than giant robots with really big guns
"microsoft legal" for fuck's sake. There's a department that needs the flamethrower if i ever saw one.
