Max Payne 3 Announced... Finally!
Take-Two has announced something that should please all PC gaming-faithful -- Max Payne 3 is in the works for a release this winter.
Developed by Remedy Entertainment, the original Max Payne shipped for the PC in July 2001, bringing bullet-time gameplay to the right mouse buttons of all gamers. An equally gritty, but slightly more matured sequel hit two years later and gathered just as much praise as the first did. With both Max Payne entries such successes, a third must have been in the works? Not so, as the originals’ Finnish developer moved on to develop Alan Wake (still yet to be released).
While Remedy is still working on Alan Wake, Take-Two Interactive is passing the license onto Rockstar Games to make Max Payne 3. Currently under development by Rockstar Vancouver, the PC version of the game will be joined by Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ports this holiday season.
"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."
Take-Two’s press release only offers this description for Max Payne 3: “Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.”
There aren’t any screenshots yet, but there is a lone piece of concept art on the official site showing the older, grizzlier Max Payne.

OK, Hell's gotten very cold all of a sudden...all we need now is Homeworld 3 and it'll freeze over properly!
I can see it now... "Max Payne comes out of retirement when aliens invade. Luckily, for the last few years he's been working out, stockpiling an arsenal of military hardware and experimental weaponary, as well as cultivating a kick ass beard. Gone is the bullet time that previously slowed down the combat to an unbearable crawl, instead, we now have an auto target system that allows you to plow mercilessly through hordes of alien badasses! The outdated film noir and graphic novel style have been replaced with a much more modern american blockbuster movie feel, with Holywood's brightest stars providing the voices and faces for the characters! Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis reprise their roles from the popualr film and are joined by the loveable Justin Long (Die Hard 4.0) as their dorky but loveable son/sidekick. The popular "Quick time events" used in many great games wil be making their first appearance in a Max Payne game and if done correctly can initiate "combo" moves that combine the various abilities of your characters into a powerful attack. We are very excited about the new direction of Max Payne and know the fans will be too!"
