Mandriva Linux fires its founder
It doesn’t happen often that companies fire their founders, but it has happened to Gael Duval, the creator of Mandrake Linux. Many Linux fans began open source journeys with the Mandrake distribution in the late 1990s. The success of the distribution spawned MandrakeSoft, which later become Mandriva Linux after the company’s merger with Conectiva.
The news of Duval’s firing was initially leaked to the Mandriva Club forums. Duval later updated his personal blog with this statement, "Since the information has leaked, I will post a message in the next few days on this website (or mirror) about why this is the end of the Mandriva story for me, and what’s next."
Not all firings of founders turn out badly. Back in 1985, Apple fired its co-founder Steve Jobs. Jobs came back to the company in 1997 and helped turned the company around. Will the same thing happen to Duval ? Looks like we will have to wait until he provides more details.
