Gone are days when the only noises our computers made were beeps and whirs. We now expect our computers to sound as good as our stereos and our games to sound as good or better than those we play in the arcade. At E3 , SRS Labs will be showing off new "surround sound" digital audio technology that the company thinks will improve your aural experience whether you're playing computer games or watching a movie using your game console. SRS's Circle Surround Interactive technology demo will include CS-I real-time decoder hardware running on a PlayStation 2 and on a PC. CS-I lets developers steer audio tracks and sound effects to front and rear speakers with a virtual center channel based on the actions of the player. SRS will also show off its TruSurround "multi-channel virtualization" technology, which creates a virtual surround sound effect from multi-channel audio using two speakers.
