Researchers at the NEC Research Institute have discovered composite materials with unprecedented magnetoresistant qualities. The property of magnetoresistance allows the reading of magnetic bits in advanced magnetic disk drives. The greater the magnetoresistance, the greater the storage potential. The new materials possess what is being called Extraordinary Magnetoresistance, and is a major advance over Giant Magnetoresistance.
