M-Systems Puts 128 MB in Your Pocket

Solid-state storage devices now come in many shapes, forms, and capacities. For those of us who don't have CD-burners on our laptops, the little gadgets could come in handy for shuttling files between the mobile unit and the office unit, as well as for laptop backup on the road. For those of us who work primarily from our office, it's not all that uncommon to have a hotrod desktop machine and a POS (personal office shuttle) laptop that does the bare minimum. Unfortunately, if you've got to back up any more data than you can fit on the single floppy you remembered to bring to the conference, you're pretty much SOL (something other than lucky). M-Systems's DiskOnKey personal storage device could be a solution for shuttling files and backing up data when you're on the road and the company just let us know that it has added new features to the gadget that include an automatic boot function and recognition by most BIOS. DiskOnKey is a little storage device that's measures 98.5 mm x 15 mm and connects to your computer's USB port. It's about the size of a highlighter pen and, in fact, it kind of looks like one. The new versions of the 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, and 128MB DiskOnKey gadgets are priced at $29.99, $49.99, $79.99, $99.99, and $129.99, respectively. It's compatible with Windows 98/2000/Me/XP/CE 4.0, Linux 2.4.1, and Mac OS 8.6/9x/9.1x/10.
