LuxSonor's Intrada DVD chip
It's just getting to be all about TV lately - especially DVD and the myriad of hybrid devices it will be included in. Yesterday, LuxSonor Semiconductors put forth its Intrada DVD chip, also known as the LS2010. The Intrada combines DVD decoder technologies, audio decode formats, video technologies, and back-end analog components onto a single system-on-chip solution. LuxSonor is using 0.18 micron technology to produce the chip, a process that they say decreases chip cost and reduces power requirements. LuxSonor is targeting the Intrada for middle-to-low end system manufacturers who require high quality playback and feature-rich solutions. Sounds like a bit of an oxymoron. The Intrada offers MP3, WMA and JPEG decoding support along with Digital AC-3 and DTS six channel decoding. It can also decode other audio formats like HDCD, DVD-Audio, SACD, Video CD, China's Super VCD format, and audio CDs (CDDA). The little squares of melted sand cost $15 apiece, and should be cheaper in volume.
