Lucent joins race for faster wireless Web access
Lucent Technologies will introduce 11Mbps wireless LAN-access devices, including a set of products that will provide wireless Internet access from airports, hotels and other busy public places, sources said.
Based on the 11Mbps 802.11b standard, the technology will let users access the Internet remotely using their home or office ISP accounts with software on their notebook's LAN card and on stand-alone public access points.
Lucent is the latest wireless LAN hardware provider attempting to team with Internet service providers to offer full-fledged access to the Internet.
The company will demonstrate the products at the CTIA Wireless trade show in New Orleans later this month.
