Lucent and MetroPCS Renew Wireless Contract
Lucent Technologies, Inc. announced on Tuesday that it has extended its current next-generation wireless equipment contract with MetroPCS, in a deal that is worth $190 million to Lucent over the next two years. As part of this contract extension, Lucent will be the exclusive MetroPCS supplier for third-generation (3G) network infrastructure equipment. MetroPCS is a wireless service provider offering its services in northern California in San Francisco and Sacramento; in Atlanta, Georgia; and in Florida, in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Lucent's 3G CDMA2000 1X equipment enables MetroPCS to offer voice services, as well as high-speed data services (including secure mobile access to corporate email and intranets), that are almost 10 times faster than second-generation network equipment.
