LSI's 180 GB Disk Drive
LSI is now shipping big old 180 gigabyte Fibre Channel disk drives for its MetaStor E-Series storage systems. LSI says that if you make use of its HotScale technology, the new drives can be installed on production MetaStor systems without disrupting operations and can be put in the mix with your existing, smaller capacity drives. The new drives can be used to scale your setup all the way up to 39 teraBytes in the largest E-Series storage system. LSI also tells us that an E4400 storage system equipped with three teraBytes (TB) of 180 gigabyte disk storage costs 19 percent less than the same system configured with 73 gigabyte drives, though they haven't released pricing for the new drives yet. The MetaStor E-Series can be connected to computers running Windows NT, Windows 2000, NetWare, Solaris, Linux, HP-UX, AIX, and IRIX operating systems.
