LSI Chip Gets Go-ahead for Ultra320 SCSI
LSI Logic has announced the first successful validation of Ultra320 SCSI interoperability and packetized protocol. In collaboration with IBM , Quantum , and Seagate , early testing shows that LSI Logic's Ultra320 SCSI silicon achieves the specification's goals. The SPI-4 Ultra320 SCSI specification calls for a 320 megaByte/second transfer rate, 32-bit Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC), a mandatory packetized protocol, paced transfers using a free running clock, backward compatibility, and other features that should result in faster, more reliable hard drives. If you want to learn more about the Ultra320 specification, check out the SCSI Trade Association (STA) website.
