LSI and Doyle Pitch SAN Solutions
For streaming media to gain acceptance, the media itself needs to be stored in a place that can not only hold a massive amount of data, but can serve it up quickly on demand. Broadband users already know that it matters little how fast their connection is if the server they are connecting to is slow. LSI Logic Storage Systems and Doyle Technology Consultants are now pitching LSI's high availability MetaStor storage systems with platforms and video applications to deliver a Storage Area Network (SAN) solution they think will solve the data delivery problem for major media, transport services providers, broadcasters, cable and satellite operators, and production and post-production houses. Digital asset management, including indexing, search and retrieval, and archiving of video for re-use, will be accomplished through Artesia's TEAMS software. While the system is currently intended for professional broadcast editing and file transport apps, it's may well be a step in the right direction toward streaming audio and video that actually streams instead of being interrupted by the dreaded buffing problems we're all used to seeing.
