Low Voltage Mobile Pentium IIIs
Intel let us know that its new low-voltage mobile processors are shipping, as forshadowed a few weeks ago in The Inquirer . The Ultra Low Voltage mobile family includes Pentium III processors at 600 MHz and 750 MHz and Celeron processors at 600 MHz and 800 MHz. The processors make use of Intel's SpeedStep technology, which offers two modes of operation: Maximum Performance Mode for high levels of performance and Battery Optimized Mode to help extend battery life. SpeedStep detects whether AC power is available and scales the clock frequency to balance performance and battery life. The processors feature a 100 MHz system bus, 256 kB Advanced Transfer Cache, Advanced System Buffering, and Streaming SIMD extensions. Systems using the low voltage processors will be available from: Compaq, Dell, Fujitsu, Gateway, HP, IBM, NEC, Matsushita-Panasonic, Sharp, Sony, Sotec, and Toshiba.
