Oh, it’s not been a good New Year for low-energy bulb fans.
The government announced in September that the UK will be incandescent bulb free by 2012 and that major retailers would begin phasing out the brighter bulbs in 2008.
So here we are, a week into 2008 and we’ve already had one crowd saying the low0energy bulbs are going to cause all kinds of skin problems and now the Migraine Action Association is saying that the bulbs have led to attacks in people who suffer badly with migraines.
Karen Manning, from the Migraine Action Association, has said that some 6 million people in the UK suffer from migraines. She also said that many of these people say the fact that low-energy bulbs are dimmer than incandescent bulbs causes eyestrain.
She then said the association said they “would ask the government to avoid banning them completely, and still leave some opportunity for conventional bulbs to be purchased."
Low-energy bulbs have also been connected with epilepsy, as they tend to flicker when they’re turned on. Representatives from the lighting industry have said that while older bulbs flickered, the newer bulbs don’t.
Another riveting article about lightbulbs.
