Lost Planet: Xbox 360 Vs. PC

When Capcom's Lost Planet: Extreme Condition arrived last winter for the Xbox 360, it was already an extremely good-looking game with top-notch animation. Can porting the hit game to the PC make Lost Planet even better? Capcom has released several screenshots with comparisons between the two versions to give gamers an idea of the differences they will see when Lost Planet arrives for the PC later this month.

Having played through Lost Planet on the Xbox 360 over the last several weeks while also putting in many hours with the game's PC demo for Windows Vista, I discovered the differences weren't as pronounced as I had expected. Both versions look excellent and the PC demo, especially with DirectX 10, certainly brings a higher level of detail and clarity to the game's design (look for an extensive review of the Lost Planet demo and DX10 graphics later this week on TwitchGuru). But the original console version is no slouch, and I certainly didn't feel like I was missing all that much playing Lost Planet on the Xbox 360.

So what are some of the differences? Shadows, of course, which look much smoother in the PC version. In addition, background environments and objects have more depth and texture on the PC, thanks to the DX10 graphics. Some of the key benefits of the PC version include extreme High Definition (EHD) support; a maximum screen resolution of 2560x1600; Shader model 4.0 and Geometry Shader capability. The PC version of Lost Planet arrives on June 26th. Here's a look at both versions side by side.
