Little interest in Microsoft's media-free Win XP
System builders in Europe apparently see little opportunities for a Windows XP sans the Media Player. According to a report published in the Financial Times Germany, so far is still locking for its first buyer. "We are able to offer systems with the Media Player-free version," said a spokeswoman for PC manufacturer Fujitsu-Siemens. "But no one has asked for it so far."
A similar statement came from Medion, on of the largest manufacturers of discount PCs in Germany : "We try to offer our customers a complete functionality. We do not expect any demand for PCs without the capability of playing back music and videos," a spokesperson said.
Sanctions imposed by the EU forcing Microsoft to offer a Media Player-free Windows XP have been in effect since January 19. (THG)
