Behavior At 48kHz

Ad
Frequency response (20 Hz - 20 kHz) +0.21, -0.65 dB
Weighted signal-to-noise ratio 86.4 dB(A)
THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) 0.006 %
Stereo crosstalk 83 dB

Frequency response : as you'd expect, the result is a lot better at 48kHz. The entire sound range is there with a very low error level.

Noise level : as is logical, the (very good) performance is similar to that at 44.1kHz.

Dynamic range : no surprise here either in this test; the MP3+ behaves very well.

THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) : distortion is very low, still an amazing result for this category.

IMD (Intermodulation distortion) : good result here too.

Stereo crosstalk : performance pretty much the same, i.e. very good.

3D Sound And Games

Being a Creative device, the MP3+ is EAX 3 compatible when most other cards around are still on EAX 2. This could make quite a difference for atmospheric sound effects. On the other hand, it only has two output channels and so can't give 3D sound effects like cards with four or more channels.

If you look at processor occupancy, the MP3+ is one of the least demanding USB cards, but of course it only has two channels to cope with. On the whole, it comes an easy first, only beaten by a hair's breadth by the Philips Aurilium and the Muse Pocket in some tests. So it's a good choice if you don't want more than two channels.
