What's smaller than a PC, bigger than a PDA, and doesn't need a cable to hook up to a network? Frontpath's new ProGear wireless web device. ProGear has a 10.4" TFT display, a soft keyboard, and a touch screen. X86 compatibility is also included, along with Soundblaster compatible audio and microphone/headphone support. ProGear's software includes the Linux 2.4x operating system, Netscape browser version 4.74, utilities, and diagnostic tools. Hardware components include the Transmeta TM3200 400 MHz processor and 64 or 128 MB of system memory. ProGear is available in hard disk drive or thin client versions. Initially, the device will be targeted at broadband-enabled vertical market segments such as hospitality, education, and healthcare. I'm not sure how mainstream this product will be, but you gotta love how they totally avoided Wintel. Just for reference, frontpath is a subsidiary of SONICblue.
