Linksys Ricochets into Wireless WAN routing
Linksys and Ricochet Networks just announced that they have teamed up on a router that uses Ricochet's wireless high-speed network as the router's Internet connection. The BEFSR41W-RN Linksys Ricochet Router accepts a Ricochet PC card modem (not included) via an external slot and shares the Ricochet wireless Internet connection among multiple LAN computers via a four port 10/100 switched NAT-based router. The router is available now via Ricochet's website and from Ricochet retailers for around $120 . Ricochet monthly service costs $45 per month. This offering certainly won't provide significant revenue for Linksys, given that Ricochet service is currently offered only in San Diego and Denver . However, it helps maintain Linksys' image as a cutting-edge network product supplier and gives them some helpful experience for other possible future offerings to the WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) market.
