Limited edition PS2 bundle headed to holiday season
Foster City (CA) - Proving its worthy position in the next-gen arena, Sony has announced that it will bring a new version of the Playstation 2 to the US later this year.
A limited edition cermamic white PS2 will sit alongside the PS3 in stores this holiday season. The new PS2 package will include casual gaming hit Singstar Pop, in addition to two USB microphones. Singstar is a game that allows players to compete in karaoke battles with dozens of songs available.
As the video game industry approaches the one year anniversary of the next-gen era, the PS2 continues to sell very well. It usually locks in as the second-best-selling console every month, behind the Nintendo Wii.
Former PS2 competitors Gamecube and Xbox, meanwhile, have been erased from store shelves as hardware production officially stopped months ago. Sony expects to eclipse 125 million PS2 units sold by the end of March 2008.
The new PS2 bundle will be available in November for a suggested retail price of around $150.
