LG preps EZ-Machine

LG International is preparing to enter the low-cost PC market with the EZ-Machine.

The PCs are expected to sell for between $499 and $599, according to the EE Times report, but rebates could cut these prices by more than $100.

The systems will go up against the popular line marketed by eMachines, a joint venture between South Korean PC manufacturer TriGem Computer Inc. and monitor-maker Korea Data Systems.

According to a specification sheet obtained by Computer Retail Week, the EZ-Machine will be available in four configurations. The $499 models will contain a 333MHz Celeron or a 350MHz K6-2 CPU and 32MB of RAM. The $599 models will be based on a 400MHz Celeron or a 400MHz K6-2 CPU, 32MB of RAM, and a 4X DVD-ROM drive.

The systems will include a one-year limited warranty standard. One-year on-site service will be offered for an additional $49, and two-year on-site service will be offered for $99. In addition, an extended three-year toll-free technical support package will be provided for $99.
