Next Portal 2 DLC Featuring "Photoshop-Like" Editor
The next DLC for Portal 2 will feature a simplified level editor.
Friday Valve Software said that the next game add-on (DLC) for Portal 2 will feature a "Photoshop-like" easy-to-use in-game map editor that will let users design, build and share their own single-player and co-op test chambers with the community. In turn, gamers will be able to view, play and vote on these user-created maps with a simple click.
The announcement arrives just weeks after Valve launched its first DLC for Portal 2, Peer Review. Available on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Peer Review continues the story of loyal bots P-Body and Atlas as two players "puzzle" their way through a mysterious new co-op test track and once again match wits with GLaDOS. The free DLC also features a single player and co-op Challenge Mode, and leaderboards to compare Challenge Mode scores with friends and the Portal community.
As for the new DLC, Valve didn't offer specifics as to the storyline, only stating that the new content and editor will arrive early next year. There's also no word on whether the level editor be released on all three platforms, or if Xbox 360 gamers will be locked out of the level editing club thanks to Microsoft's strict Xbox Live policies. Modders can already create levels in the Source Developers Kit, but the screenshots released on Friday reveal an extremely simple interface in the new editor that's seemingly missing a few whiny Sims and broken appliances.
