Raleigh (NC) - Lenovo today announced its second own-branded notebook series. Following the entry-level C100 devices are widescreen N100 models, which can be equipped with single and dual-core processors.

Lenovo is taking big steps to branch off its global PC business from the IBM brand. The firm’s second notebook series that is sold alongside the "IBM Thinkpad" is the N100, which is marketed under the rood of the "3000" notebook product family.

The N100 will also be budget-oriented devices, which however will offer slightly more performance than the entry-level C100 as well as a trendy widescreen display. The new portables will be priced from $800 when equipped with a single-core Pentium M 760 (2.0 GHz) processor and cost $1000, when carrying a dual-core Core T2300 (1.66 GHz) CPU.

According to the spec sheet of the N100, the devices will offered with Core Duo processors up to 2 GHz (T2500), hard drives ranging from 40 to 100 GB in size, 14.1" or 15.4" displays, system memory capacities from 256 MB to 1 GB as well as three graphics chip solutions that include Intel’s 950GMA chipset or Nvidia’s Go 7300 graphics processor with 64 or 128 MB of memory. The standard battery included with the N100 is expected to provide an operating time of about three hours.

The N100 is announced to be available today. However, Lenovo’s website has not been updated with a product configuration and ordering page so far.
