Lenovo Has Exploding Battery Problem, Announces Recall
Lenovo has (eventually) joined in with the other kids in the playground by announcing that it is to recall around 205,000 of its extended life 9-cell battery packs which, the company says, could potentially overheat ; creating a health hazard right where you don’t want there to be one.
Lenovo will be offering a free replacement for all recalled battery packs, which affects the R60, R60e, T60, T60p, Z60m, Z61e, Z61m and Z61p series notebooks. These models may have shipped with either regular or extended-life, 9-cell battery packs ; and only some of the larger, extended-life, 9-cell battery packs with the part number FRU P/N 92P1131 are being recalled.
The company recommends that while you wait for your replacement battery you switch off your machine, remove the battery and only operate it on AC power, and customers shouldn’t use any battery packs not provided by Lenovo or one of their resellers. A battery recall site has been set up, and users in the US can call the service support centre at 1-800-426-7378. Customers outside the US can find their support number here.
