Leap year fear replaces Y2K worries

After most Year 2000 computer bug horrors failed to materialize, some IT professionals have found a new focus for their fear: the Year 2000 leap year problem.

The potential problem concerns Feb. 29, 2000. Computers that don't recognize 2000 as a leap year could erroneously interprete that day as March 1.

Leap years normally occur every four years, but skips years ending in "00." Only once every 400 years does the turn of the century coincide with a leap year - and that happens to be the case in 2000.
