LCD TV segment to account for half of revenues of large backlight units
Shipments of backlight units (BLUs) for large-size LCD panels totaled 206.6 million units worldwide in 2005, and demand is expected to increase 28.3% this year to 265 million units, according to market research firm Displaybank. Displaybank CEO Peter Kwon indicated that shipments of large BLUs will hit 363 million units by 2008, representing an annual growth rate of 27.1% since 2004.
