Labels call Napster's offer PR stunt
Napster's offer of $1 billion to the music industry in return for the right to continue its file-sharing service has been rejected as a PR tactic by the RIAA and denigrated by many of the biggest record labels, including Universal Music and AOL Time Warner's Warner Music. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, which represents manufacturers of sound recordings, has demanded that Napster first stop trading of copyrighted files before negotiations can start.
