Kinpad Android Tablet Uses AMD Graphics

The $400 Kinpad I600 features 1080p H.264 video but no HDMI-out.

Overseas, the 7-inch Kinpad I600 tablet is making its debut, borrowing from Dell's Streak design by providing a similar smartphone-tablet hybrid setup but with a cheaper pricetag. However, one of the more interesting aspects about this hybrid device is that it uses AMD's Z430, the same GPU that is used in the HTC Desire smartphone.

Under the hood, the tablet sports an 800 MHz ARM Coretex-A8 CPU (via Freescale's i.MX51), 512 MB of DDR2 RAM, 8 GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot supporting up to 32 GB of storage, a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch screen with a native resolution of 1024 x 600, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, 802.11 b/g support and more.

As previously mentioned, the tablet is also capable of making/receiving calls and making/receiving SMS messages thanks to built-in support for 3G WCDMA UMTS/HSDPA (2100 MHz) and GSM/EDGE (850,900,1800,1900 MHz). Other goodies include built-in GPS, a front-facing camera, 1080p H.264 video playback (sorry, no HDMI output), Flash 10.1 thanks to Android 2.2 (Froyo), a 4200mAh battery, built-in microphone and other admirable features.

The tablet can actually be purchased from Merimobiles for $399.99-- that's $90 off the original price. The only drawback to this tablet is that it looks quite goofy when receiving and placing a call-- it's obviously bigger than most smartphones, so it appears as if the user is talking to a kitchen cutting board or one of those lap trays kids use when eating lunch on the couch while watching (Jane's favorite) Yo Gabba Gabba on TV.
