JVC's D'ahlia Hologram HDTV Hits the Stores

by - source: Tom's Hardware

We need to cut corners when the economy is in a slump. Cooking at home is generally cheaper than eating in restaurants and subscribing to cable is cheaper than going out to see a movie or a sporting event every night. Maybe it's best to invest in technology that keeps you at home and, as far as TVs go, the bigger the better. JVC's D'Ahlia (AV-61S902) is a great big 61" D-ILA hologram HDTV rear projection television that offers 1.32 million pixels or 3.96 addressable RGB dots and is capable of producing 1,280 x 1,028 pixels. D'Ahlia includes Dual Auto Sensing Component Video Inputs so whether you are feeding an HD or DVD signal, the tube automatically adjusts to the proper frequency. It has component video inputs to connect DTV decoders and features four S-Video (Y/C), four AV (RCA) inputs and an NTSC tuner. D'Ahlia also has JVC's "Natural Progressive" picture improvement technologies to optimize signal quality before the picture is displayed on the screen. This feature doubles the image data in each field and uses 3D interpolation to display a solid image while doing what it can to eliminate jagged edge noise and image trails. It includes a pair of 10cm full range stereo speakers plus two 16cm superwoofers, a built-in 50W amplifier, and Dolby 3-D Phonic circuitry. The feature laundry list includes the ability to accept 480i, 480p and 1080i outputs from a set top boxes, four aspect modes (regular, panoramic, cinema and full), digital noise reduction and Dolby Pro Logic Surround, Dolby 3-D PHONIC and four DAP sound modes, a PLL Frequency-Synthesized 181-Channel Tuner, dual tuner split screen and a wide viewing angle, 3D Y/C digital comb filter, an on-screen menu (English/French/Spanish), and an universal illuminated remote control in case you drop the thing in the dark. JVC hasn't told us how much it will cost, but I'd like to review one when basketball season comes around.
