Judge issues injunction against Napster
In a move that could shut down the company that revolutionized music distribution, a federal judge issued an injunction against music-swapping service Napster, ordering it to block all copyrighted music on its site.
In issuing the order, effective midnight Friday, Judge Marilyn Patel denied virtually every defense claim by Napster, saying the recording industry is likely to prevail in its copyright infringement case against the San Mateo, Calif.-based firm, scheduled for trial later this year.
A Napster spokesman called the order "impossible to implement or obey" since it hasn't received a list of songs it's required to block.
