Japan's Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp said on Monday it had developed technology that drastically raises optic-fibre communication speeds for homes and offices. "The new technology will increase communication speeds tenfold to one gigabyte per second, from around 100 megaBytes per second for optic-fibre services now available" . It is speculated that this technology will be ready for mass-production within two years, where commercialization will then take place.
