Return of a Classic: Jagged Alliance 3 Announced

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

It's been more than 10 years since Jagged Alliance 2. Are you ready now for another?

Old school PC gamers should remember the Jagged Alliance games with much fondness. Despite it being more than a decade since the release of Jagged Alliance 2, news comes today of a third entry into the series.

The German publisher bitComposer Games has secured the full rights to the license from Strategy First, and will publish this famous strategy game sometime in 2011.

"Although Jagged Alliance 2 was published over ten years ago now, the game still represents a milestone in the genre and boasts a huge following of loyal fans," says Wolfgang Duhr, Managing Director of bitComposer Games. "We are delighted to acquire this classic game for bitComposer, and want to continue the success of the previous titles in the series, while giving the new version a contemporary look, bearing in mind the strong features of its predecessors."

That's all the details at the moment, but we look forward to hearing more. Stay tuned!

Well, I'll be taking this one with a pinch of salt, even though I would dearly love to see JA3. It has been in development in some form or another for more than 5 years, and has changed hands three times already. By the time it finally gets released it may be too dated to be any good. Pity really, because the original JA is still one of my all-time favourites.

I am hoping this a rebirth for Jagged Alliance series, not just enhancing it visually but also to keep the strong point of the game that is off course the game play it self.

Question is will they keep the isometric 3/4 kinda of view (CLASSIC!!!) and enhance it or going for 1st/3rd person view ? for example on Fallout 1 and 2 the isometric is great (although can be a pain especially if you searching for loot or switch) because of the element of turn based battle and exploration. Fallout 3 using 1st/3rd person view off course because of the alternation on the game play aspect (semi turn based/real time battle)
