Apple Passes Microsoft as Largest Tech Company
The little fruit company has climbed high.
While Microsoft may still rule the software world with its operating system and desktop software, the worlds most valuable technology company, at least when it comes down to the finances, is Apple.
According to the New York Times: In intraday trading shortly after 2:30 p.m., Apple shares rose 1.8 percent, which gave the company a value of $227.1 billion. Shares of Microsoft declined about 1 percent, giving the company a market capitalization of $226.3 billion.
This also gives Apple the second highest market capitalization among American companies. Only higher is Exxon Mobil, at $282 billion.
A venture capitalist call's Apple's rise from ashes of decades ago something remarkable. "It is the single most important turnaround that I have seen in Silicon Valley," said Jim Breyer.
NYT points to this as a sign of changing investor attitudes and the increased value of consumer tastes. While Microsoft's products still completely own businesses, Apple's products cater strongly to the consumer.

Now the "exclusivity" of being an Apple fan boy is well and truly gone are we going to see these people moving to another platform as Apple is just so common ... pah!

Thats what you get for having Balmer running the company
Yeah, sure, but remember Apple needs all of it's arsenal (i Phone/Pod/Pad/Tunes/Mac) to be level w/ Microsoft, which primarily does softwares.
As much as I dislike Apple and Jobs (I admit I own a 3G iPhone), good for them. They put out decent products, albeit have a nazi like control over many of them and their features, but they don't exactly build crap.
They shouldn't get ahead of themselves though, one Microsoft starts expanding it's line of new hardware they will have to fight hard to maintain the top spot. Natal and WP7 have the potential to be HUGE.
As much as I dislike Apple and Jobs.
If you dislike them why did you buy their products? there are better phones on the market then the Iphone, like one with android.
But microsoft still has a higher revenue
Microsoft $58.4bn, Apple $36.5bn
and profit
Microsoft $14.6bn, Apple $5.7bn

Because at the time, I didn't, and it was the best phone on the market.
Have both android and iphone . Hate the android. Too much crap on the market place. The phone is also very buggy and the touch is still not there.
If you are a retard that enjoys java crap, sure, Android is perfect.
Ooohhh! Flame baiting... So if I like Windows, does that make me a retard that enjoys GUI's?
Oh, FFS, do we have to have pointless flame wars EVERY time a news article is posted?
If the iPhone OS suits your requirements, fine - use it. Android floats your boat? Good for you, enjoy it. Windows Mobile perfect for you? Go for it! We're all into technology, so why squabble? Do Ferrari and Porsche drivers bicker this much, or just appreciate each other's cars and passions?
I love my (Windows Mobile) HD2, my two colleagues have an (Android) HTC Desire and an iPhone 3G. Each one is right for the person who owns it and each one is loved and used heavily - what more could you want?

*LOUD APPLAUSE*
Still not sure ... any phone that beats iPhone's touch screen.... anyone?
