But it's still a larger version of the Iphone. I have yet to see the difference between the two.

Overgrown iPhone with reduced function (without calling function) is not worth that much!
It should have only about the same price as those $250-$300 netbooks.

Those that feel cheated should perhaps buy the components and do a self-assembly at home!
Hell, that a good Idea, I seem to remember doing something like this in my youth.

100% markup is standard and perfect business sense - everybody puts 100% markup on their goods.

Just because that's the price of components doesn't mean that's the full cost to Apple either. Software development costs, support costs, costs to cover the warranty period - none of that is actually free. Plus they are business trying to make money at the end of the day. I think the pricing makes sense.

If we could see a comparison with the slate or other tablet it would be interesting.

I'm actually suprised that the cost of the components is half the retail. It seems quite high; I would expect about 30%.

You all seem to be forgetting that unlike other consumer devices anytime you purchase software for the device or use iTunes Apple is taking a hefty cut. Consoles use a similar model and will actually LOSE money on each sale to tie you into their walled garden.

So please don't compare this device to someone selling you a computer.

This is a company selling you a console, that hopes to reap benefits throughout your entire life.

They take cuts from your books, magazines, music, software, television and film viewing.

Of course Flash is an outdated technology that doesn't run very well, quicktime and fairplay (oh the irony) DRM is amazing!!

maybe they should sell it at a loss and make ppl pay 10$ on an app and get their money from that. Like m$ and $ony does with the consoles

That's the point, they take around 30% of EVRYTHING you purchase for the device...
