Intel's Almador chipset put off

According to IC insider Jack Robertson, numerous high-ranking industry sources are reporting that Intel Corp. will delay launch of the Almador chipset due to problems encountered while designing a Direct Rambus DRAM graphics port. Instead, the 815E will be refined to support the Tualatin 1.3 GHz Pentium III processor with added 1.5-V termination voltage and differential clock features. Almador was to have supported SDR and DDR memory support for the Tualatin so Intel will depend on modified third-party DDR chipsets with Tualatin to compete against Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s Athlon DDR chips. Intel is expected to market the 1.3 GHz Tualatin for laptop computers and lower midrange PCs.
