Intel has reduced the number of its Intel Developer Forum conferences as part of its ongoing cost reduction effort. In 2006, the company held a total of nine IDF events around the globe ; for 2007, Intel has decided to cancel the satellite events in Prague, Bangalore, Tel Aviv, Seoul, Shanghai, Ukraine and Sao Paulo and focus on three key events in Peking (April 17-18), San Francisco (September 18-20) and Taipei (October 15 - 16).
While details about the new IDF schedule have not been published yet, it has been an open secret that Intel officials weren’t so sure about the firm’s IDF expenses anymore. For example, the Spring IDF, held in San Francisco’s Moscone Center, was rumored to have caused expenses north of $3 million and smaller events in the range of about $1 million.
Three "key" events will be kept in place and in fact are promised to be "strengthened ;" The flagship and most extensive event will be held in Beijing and breaks with a tradition of the IDF : The Spring IDF was held in California since the first conference in 1998. Intel opened the IDF year in San Jose in 1998 and 2001, in Palm Springs in 1999 and 2000 and in San Francisco from 2001 to 2006.
