Intel struggles with Rambus delay

Intel reportedly still hasn't identified what caused the system errors that triggered last week's embarrassing last-minute delay of its Direct Rambus DRAM debut.
A company spokesman said engineers "at this time are continuing to work to identify the causes" of memory-data errors in the three-RIMM-module PC configuration.
"Without knowing the cause of the errors, it's premature to discuss how long Direct Rambus will be delayed," the spokesman said.
The awkward eleventh-hour pullout has placed the company in a precarious position with its DRAM and OEM partners, which spent millions designing and prepping Direct RDRAM chips and PCs for a September rollout. The delay has left Rambus module and motherboard makers stuck with introductory stocks that may have to be scrapped.
