Intel signals network processor plans
Intel Corp. has announced plans to enter the network processor market.
Network processors are used in local- and wide-area networks to improve performance in equipment such as switches and routers.
Dataquest projects that the network processor market will grow to a $6 million business by 2002. Intel will be competing against companies such as C-Port, LSI Logic, MMC Networks, MIPS Technologies, Motorola, Softcom Microsystems, and others for a share of that market.
