Intel Pushes Out a Dozen New Mobile Processors + Two New Chipsets
I saw glimpses of these chips (and their accompanying technology) back in July at an Intel event here in San Francisco, but had no idea that the company would turn loose so many processors at one time. The company just announced 12 new mobile processors including a handful based on the 0.13-micron manufacturing process and a bunch of new Celerons. Intel says the mobile P3 processor-M at 1.2 GHz is the speed demon of the bunch and the ultra-low-voltage mobile Intel P3 processor-M at 700 MHz operates at 0.95 volt while consuming less than half a watt of average power. The new Ultra-Low and Low Voltage mobile Pentium III processor-Ms feature a 512 kB L2 cache, Data Prefetcher, and a processor system bus up to 133MHz. All mobile Pentium III processor-M chips support Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology that can automatically switch between Maximum Performance Mode and Battery Optimized Mode. The Deeper Sleep mode provides a power reduction from previous low power sleep states to help extend battery life and reaches power levels as low as two tenths of a watt or less.
Intel also introduced two new versions of its Intel 830 mobile chipset family. The Intel 830M provides integrated graphics for 2D, 3D, and video display on notebook PCs and the Intel 830MG is intended to provide value-oriented, integrated graphics for lower-cost platforms. Both chipsets support up to 1GB high-performance PC-133 SDRAM memory. When compared to the previous 815EM chipset with integrated graphics, Intel says the 830M provides up to a 113 percent performance gain. In 1,000-unit quantities, the Intel 830M chipset is $49.50 and the Intel 830MG chipset is $35.00.
Also in 1,000-unit quatities, here are the prices for the new mobile P3s and Celerons. The Mobile P3 1.2 GHz (800 MHz in Battery Mode) processor-M is $722, the low-voltage Mobile P3 800 MHz (533 MHz in Battery Mode) processor-M is $316, the low-voltage Mobile P3 733 MHz(466 MHz in Battery Mode) processor-M is $241, the low-voltage Mobile P3 800A MHz (500 MHz in Battery Mode) processor-M is $316, the low voltage Mobile P3 750 MHz (450 MHz in Battery Mode) processor-M is $241, the ultra low voltage Mobile P3 700 MHz (300 MHz in Battery Mode) processor-M is $209, the low voltage 650 MHz Mobile Celeron is $134, the 933 MHz Mobile Celeron is $134, the 900 MHz Mobile Celeron is $134, the 733 MHz Mobile Celeron is $75, the 800A MHz Mobile Celeron is $91, and last but not least, the 866 MHz Mobile Celeron is $107.
