Intel preps 1 GHz mobile P3s

Threatened by the attention and business that Transmeta has gained in the mobile sector, Intel is aiming to hold onto to its share of the lucrative mobile chip market by introducing high-performance 1 GHz and extremely low-power 500-MHz processors early next year. Intel plans to gain chip power and performance improvement, in part, by moving from a .18 micron to a .13 micron process. Intel's general manager of the mobile platform group, speaking of the competition between Intel and Transmeta, said that Intel's "performance is superior."
