Intel expected to continue aggressive pricing on Pentium D series
Although fierce pricing is widely believed to be a major cause of Intel’s sharp drop in 2006 fourth-quarter profits, the US chip giant will continue its low-price strategy to clear its Pentium D inventory ahead of a campaign to make Conroe and Kentsfield multi-core (commonly marketed under the names Core 2 Duo and Quad) processors the market mainstream in the third quarter 2007, according to industry sources.Intel plans to raise the proportion of its multi-core processor shipments to 80% in the third quarter 2007.
