Intel marching into WLAN market, rumored to plan new RF module specification
Intel has made quick strides in the communications chip industry. Following its rise to second place in the global communications chip and optical components rankings in 2001, behind only Agere Systems, Intel has recently entered the WLAN (wireless local area network) sector. In addition, in attempting to set up a new RF (radio frequency) module specification, Intel may hope to construct a threshold barrier for other companies, prove to be a formidable rival to existing WLAN chip suppliers and capture the industry throne.
