Intel dumps mobos due to chipset problems
Intel is scrapping three server motherboards based on the i820 and i840 chipsets that were supposed to launch in the next couple of weeks, according to The Register.
Documents sent to the company's system manufacturers reportedly detail Intel's plans to do away with its so-called Pine, Hemlock and Willow motherboards, due to performance problems with the chipsets' memory translators.
The documents also reportedly reveal Intel's plans to offer Slot One versions of its Coppermine processors within 30 days of offering equivalent processors in the flip chip configuration, through the end of this year.
The complete report is posted online at www.theregister.com.
